niggles
Girl holds a dressed up dead animal.A New Zealand school came up with a bizarre fund-raising idea. They had the school children compete in the best-dressed dead possum competition. The children let their imagination run wild as they tried to dress their dead animal to impress the competition judges. One animal was actually skinned to look like a boxer, others were dressed in a bikini or in a wedding gown. Animal rights groups were outraged by this competition; they accused the school of encouraging animal cruelty.Principal Pauline Sutton defended the action saying that “Animals aren’t the only species who are dressed up after they die, we humans do it to too.” The fund-raiser helped raise $6,000 for the school, yet many parents said that they would rather have their children go back to the old fashion school fund-raising of selling cakes and cookies. --edit--http://www.yourjewishnews.com/pages/w6094.aspx Edited August 10, 2012 by niggles

The idea of dressing up dead animals is weird to me. I find it rather morbid when done with humans too, though. How did they get so many not-squashed dead possums? poison? Animals are animals, regardless of where they are and if they belong there, so would it be funny if we dressed up dead boat people like that?sorry that was my " sensible" self speaking...but yeh, i must admit, the pics were pretty funny... niggles
I dont think id mind if you dressed me up in a funny costume once im dead. Id rather make people happy than sad.Id rather my corpse be fed to wild animals than put in a box and have some heavy machinery dig a big hole in the ground for it, but i dont think thats allowed.
altenate
Thanks for sharing.I do like possum socks. they are the best!Although not sure if a school kid actually skinned the boxing one. If they did then wow, thats some awesome skinning skills. On an Australian note in regards to cane toads & dressing up the mocku/documentary about cane toads is awesome. There are some awesome dressed up Toads in that one as well!Niggles you got to live in Tibet for that & get a sky burial. Now that would be a wholistic way to go.Although I dont think they dress you up...Oh to be eaten by vultures & my bones ground up & feed back to them to be passed around the mountains as fertiliser!!
niggles
yeah alternate, that sounds like a good way to be disposed of, the fact they wouldnt mock me or dress me up in funny clothes in no way detracts from my liking of idea. whitewind
This is the sort of thing I would expect Greenpeace to do as a shock protest against excessive animal deaths, like when they used the dead oily birds from the Bay of Plenty to make art on walls. I kind of don't expect children to be doing it for fun, and I would be furious if my daughter's school did something like this; it's really quite grotesque. What is it about New Zealanders and dead animal art?http://www.greenpeace.org.nz/oiloncanvas/
CβL
Meh, as long as the animals are dead already and died for some other reason - then I couldn't care less if someone puts a dress on its corpse for a day or two.Death is natural, and it's healthy. In fact, you're only alive because of the continued death of plants and animals. Hiding children forever from entire circle of life is irresponsible, and breeds unreal beliefs.
qualia
haha did they skin #34 before dressing it up?
Fluss
hahaha, well! if that'd been in Sweden ... it would get so much media attention as a "cruelty" and here it is done by children, interesting. Personally i think it's kinda fucked bc. of the children.. like a crazy granny could do it.What a hottie standing in the background #
qualia
this confirms what i've long suspected, that new zealanders are bizarre freaks.it doesn't get any less creepy each time i look at it lol
